Realme is all set to launch its latest budget-friendly smartphone, the Realme 14x, in January 2025. The device, though yet to have an officially confirmed model number, has already caught the attention of smartphone enthusiasts for its promising specifications and affordability. Let’s take a closer look at what the Realme 14x brings to the table.
The Realme 14x comes with a dimensional measurement of 165.7 x 76.2 x 7.9 mm, making it a slim and easy-to-handle smartphone. Weighing 190 grams, it maintains a lightweight feel while offering a solid build. While the device features a sleek design, details regarding the materials used and protection features, such as Corning Gorilla Glass or water resistance, remain unknown at this time.
Sporting a 6.67-inch IPS LCD panel, the Realme 14x provides a decent visual experience. However, the 720 x 1604 pixels resolution may seem a bit underwhelming compared to the higher resolution displays found in many modern smartphones. While IPS LCD panels are known for their good color reproduction and wide viewing angles, users expecting an AMOLED experience might be slightly disappointed. Additionally, the display is protected by an unspecified material, which leaves some uncertainty regarding its durability.
At the heart of the Realme 14x lies the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset, built on a 6nm process. This octa-core processor (2×2.4 GHz Cortex-A76 & 6×2.0 GHz Cortex-A55) ensures efficient multitasking and smooth performance for daily tasks. Coupled with Android 14, users can expect an optimized and modern software experience with Realme’s customized UI enhancements. However, how well the phone performs under heavy gaming or intensive tasks remains to be seen.
Realme has opted for a single 50MP rear camera on the 14x, which might seem a bit limited compared to the dual or triple-camera setups commonly found in budget devices. Despite this, the 50MP sensor is expected to deliver crisp and detailed shots, especially in well-lit conditions. The 8MP front-facing selfie camera, housed within the display notch, should provide decent self-portraits and video-calling capabilities. Both cameras support 1080p@30fps video recording, which is standard for budget smartphones but lacks 4K video support.
The Realme 14x comes in a single variant with 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage. While the storage is generous, those needing more space will be happy to know that the device supports microSDXC expansion via a dedicated slot.Powering the device is a 5000mAh battery, ensuring all-day usage without frequent recharges. The 15W fast charging capability, though not the fastest in the market, is a reasonable feature for a budget device.
The Realme 14x is a 5G-ready device, ensuring faster data speeds and improved network capabilities. It supports 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G networks, making it a future-proof choice for users. Additional connectivity options include WLAN, Bluetooth, and a USB port.
For security, the side-mounted fingerprint sensor ensures quick and secure unlocking, a common but efficient placement choice among modern smartphones.
The Realme 14x is an appealing budget-friendly 5G smartphone offering a balanced mix of performance, battery life, and connectivity. While its 720p display and single-camera setup might not impress power users, its Dimensity 6300 chipset, 8GB RAM, 5000mAh battery, and 5G support make it a strong contender in the entry-level segment. If Realme prices the device competitively, it could be an attractive choice for those looking for an affordable yet capable smartphone.
It has one variant of 8GB in RAM and 256GB in ROM. However, you can get two variants (256GB/8GB) on the market overall.
